The Teams movement has always invited priests and religious to be chaplains or spiritual counsellors. The movement is inspired by Father Henri Caffarel who sought ways over 50 years to enable couples to develop their conjugal spirituality.
Couples need support, but so do priests and religious. We all know that “community” offers spiritual, practical and human support that enables personal growth. Today, support for priests and religious who have taken lifetime vows of celibacy is more important than ever. This is especially necessary for those engaged in parish work where the understanding of marriage and family life is critical to their approach in dealing with families in their pastoral care.
The Role of Chaplain or Spiritual Counsellor
The Chaplain or Spiritual Counsellor journeys with the Team and can help achieve balance of work and personal growth through support and communal friendship. He or she contributes as an active member of the Team and can also contribute through prayer and reflection.
