Teams GB - Conference 2016

The Teams GB conference took place on 30 September to 2nd October in the beautiful tranquil setting of the Hayes Christian Conference Centre in Swanwick, Derbyshire.

The theme was ‘Living the Gospel with Joy through Changing Times’. We had nearly 100 people attending the conference. Children took part in a special youth programme.

Our two main guest speakers were David Wells and Fr Chris Thomas who spoke about our call to Mercy and Joy and how we could serve God and one another. David is the Director of Adult Formation and Youth Ministry in the Diocese of Plymouth. He is internationally renowned for his creative and humorous style of presentation. Fr Chris Thomas is director of spirituality at the Irenaeus Centre in the Archdiocese of Liverpool and is a gifted storyteller. Their talks inspired and challenged us and can be heard on this Teams GB website.

A number of workshops identified different challenges of our time and explored how we can respond. These included changes in marriage and family life, our secular society, environmental change, and responding to war, migration and those in need.

We were privileged to hear from Teams couples who shared on their experiences of practicing the endeavours and from our Superregional couple Piotr & Dzidzia Chodzko-Zajko. The conference had an international flavour with  Dulce & Elio Simoes from South Africa, Peter & Linda Kowlessar from Trinidad and Alex & Suzy Periera from India attending. They gave us some wonderful insights into the life of Teams in their own countries.

The conference ended with Mass on Sunday celebrated by Abbott Martin Shipperlle who gave an inspiring homily. The children performed play on the gospel and led us on Sunday. The animating team of Howard & Theresa Park, Mark & Dympna Edwards and John and Rosemary Turner are now enjoying a rest!
